Creating an estate plan is an important first step toward protecting your family, finances, and autonomy. But your estate plan can’t continue to achieve your goals without ongoing care and attention.

Why is Client Care Important?
Laws (and life) change over time. Failing to update your estate plan in accordance with those changes can leave your assets and loved ones in the lurch if:
- A beneficiary passes away before you do
- Your designated trustee is no longer available to manage your estate
- A charitable beneficiary dissolves before your death
- Your financial status changes (for the better or worse)
- Your family structure evolves due to a birth, death, marriage, or divorce
- Changes to local legislation impact your existing trust account
Independently tracking all of the factors that can impact your estate plan can be time-consuming. Yet, after going through the time and expense to establish your estate plan, you don’t want to wonder whether your wishes will truly be carried out.
The SMC ESQ PLLC client care program takes this weight off of your shoulders to ensure that your plan is well-funded and well-executed, no matter what life brings.
Who Benefits From Client Care?
Our client care program is mandatory for our clients with trust-based estate plans, but it’s also ideal for anyone looking for cost-effective reassurance that the people, assets, and values that matter most to you are well-protected—even when life circumstances and legislation change.

Estate Planning Document Updates
Establishing an estate plan is a continual process, not a one-and-done purchase. To ensure that your plan carries out your wishes, our team monitors changes to legal code and assesses how they may impact your plan. We also check in regularly to ensure that your plan is still aligned with your goals for the future.
You can rest easy with the knowledge that your plan is up-to-date, because client care program members receive free word processing revisions, such as:
- The designated trustee
- Personal representative
- Agent and/or guardian
- Changes to individual beneficiary names or percentages
Client Care Program members also receive a 50% discount on amendments and restatements and a 25% discount on any new planning work or other flat fee legal work.
Asset Alignment
We’ll regularly review ownership of your assets and provide you with an annual report to ensure that any trusts associated with your estate plan are properly funded. The asset alignment process might include moving assets into the proper trust or correcting beneficiary designations.
For the sake of accuracy, we’re always willing to coordinate these reviews with your financial advisor.

Family Meeting
Our client care members benefit from the opportunity to meet with trusted family members and advisors to discuss your estate plan. This helps your family better understand the how and why of your plan. This family meeting also provides a forum to ask questions and discuss any potential challenges that may arise in the future. It’s also a great opportunity to manage your family’s expectations, which can reduce conflict in the future.
